Windows Server Deployment

Windows Server deployments need a little planning around permissions, startup behavior, firewall access, and support diagnostics.

Permissions

Creating virtual COM ports and opening real serial devices may require administrator permission. Set this up before production use.

Firewall

For TCP Server mode, allow the chosen listen port through Windows Firewall if remote machines need to connect.

Startup behavior

Use the application settings to configure background/startup behavior where appropriate for your workstation policy.

Document the mapping

Keep a record of rule name, COM port, mode, IP address, TCP port, and device purpose.

Diagnostics

Export diagnostics after setup and whenever the environment changes. It gives support a baseline.

Validate before deployment

Test with the actual device, network path, user account, and Windows application.
