When to use RFC2217

Raw TCP forwards bytes. RFC2217 can also carry serial control settings. Use it when the remote endpoint is an RFC2217 server and expects those settings.

Steps

  1. Create a TCP Client rule.
  2. Set Protocol to RFC2217.
  3. Select or create the local virtual COM port.
  4. Enter the remote IP address and port.
  5. Set baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow control.
  6. Start the rule and test the COM port in your Windows application.

Troubleshooting

If the rule cannot connect, confirm the remote server really supports RFC2217. A raw TCP server will not behave like RFC2217.
